The Master of Science in Computer Information Systems offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for advanced roles in the technology and information systems fields.
Students may complete the MS-CIS degree without a concentration or choose from a concentration in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, or Data Science:
- Artificial Intelligence: Focuses on the development of intelligent systems, machine learning, and data processing techniques.
- Cyber Security: Provides in-depth knowledge of protecting information systems, networks, and data from cyber threats.
- Data Science: Emphasizes the analysis and interpretation of complex data using advanced statistical and computational techniques.
Program Tracks
- General Track: Offers a broad curriculum with specialized electives, enabling students to customize their coursework to align with their academic and professional goals.
- Internship Track: Provides students with hands-on industry experience. Internships may begin as early as the first semester, subject to approval by the program director.
- Thesis Track: Designed for academically qualified students, this track offers an opportunity to conduct independent research and contribute to the field’s knowledge. Prior approval from a faculty member (Thesis Advisor), with whom the student has earned a minimum 3.0 GPA, is required.

Degree Requirements
The Computer Information Systems degree requires 36 semester hours. Students can choose to complete the degree without a concentration or with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, or Data Science. Internship or Thesis Option: If chosen, this option reduces the number of specialization courses. The hours saved will be used for the internship or thesis instead. Degree requirements are summarized below. Prerequisite/Leveling Courses (18 semester hours)
Required for students with non-technical undergraduate backgrounds: - Computer Science/Information Systems: 9 semester hours
• 6 semester hours of courses in programming and data structure. • 3 semester hours in fundamental knowledge of computer information systems, including proficiency in common PC software environments or COSC 3325 . • 3 semester hours of Statistics (MATH 3391 ). Core Courses (15 semester hours)
Specialization (3-18 semester hours; depending track selected)
Students can choose a general track with no concentration or a specialized track in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, or Data Science. In either track, students have the option to complete an internship or thesis. To earn a concentration distinction on their transcript, students must complete at least three courses within their chosen concentration. Integration Course (3 semester hours)
