Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS)

Texas A&M University-Victoria participates in the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS), which facilitates the transfer of general academic courses between colleges and universities throughout Texas. This system ensures that A&M-Victoria accepts courses bearing a common course number from other participating institutions as equivalent to the corresponding A&M-Victoria course.

TCCNS courses follow a standardized format: a four-letter prefix identifying the subject area (e.g., ENGL for English, COSC for Computer Science), followed by a four-digit number.

  • The first digit indicates the course level: freshman (1) or sophomore (2).

  • The second digit represents the number of credit hours.

  • The last two digits identify the course sequence (e.g., SPAN 1301 is typically taken before SPAN 1302).

For courses not listed in the TCCNS table, students should consult with their academic advisor before enrolling to determine if and how the course applies to their degree program.

For more information, visit www.tccns.org or contact the Office of the Registrar & Student Records.
