				The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Education undergraduate program is to prepare exemplary educators who possess and demonstrate the content, pedagogical, and professional knowledge, skills, strategies, and dispositions necessary to develop learners in our culturally diverse society. Degree RequirementsThe following requirements apply to all candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Education:
	Satisfy all university requirements for a bachelor’s degree as found in the section, Bachelor’s Degree Requirements , in this catalog.Lower Division:
	
		A combined total of 7 semester hours in natural sciences (biology, chemistry, geology and/or physics; a combination is preferred), one of which must have a lab.3 semester hours of mathematics as required by the university core requirements, selected from college algebra, finite, trigonometry, analytic geometry, or calculus3 semester hours in fundamentals of speech.15 semester hours in the academic concentrations and specialization courses.3 semester hours of a computer proficiency course.Upper Division*:
	
		ESLN 4320 Teaching English as a Second Language  or ENGL 3430 Professional Writing  63 total hours in specified area of study

One course must be a math class selected from MATH 1350, MATH 1351, or STAT 1342 and once course should be a science course. The remaining courses can be chosen from math, history, geography, economics, government, biology, chemistry, physical science, or psychology. Faculty Advisor approval MUST be obtained if another elective course is to be considered.
Upper Level Major Requirements - May be taken any time in program - 12 Semester Hours
 The following University Based Courses may be taken without admission to the Teacher Education Program; scheduling may be difficult if all are taken prior to acceptance to the Teacher Education Program.Teacher Education Program Block 1 - 12 Semester Hours
 Students should be admitted into the Teacher Educaiton Program and must take these 4 classes concurrently before moving on to the next block of classes.Teacher Education Program - 36 Semester Hours
 Students should be admitted into the Teacher Educaiton Program AND take CUIN 3323 , LITY 3352 , INDS 3323  and EDUC 3327  prior to taking these courses.  Total Required Hours - 121 Semester Hours
 Admission to Teacher Education is a course prerequisite for the Teacher Education Program Block courses. Admission to the Teacher Education Program is admission to a professional program and is a separate process from admission to the University.
