This degree requires 120 credit hours, including 42 hours of University Core coursework.

Degree Requirements

All candidates must meet the following:

  1. Fulfill all university requirements for a bachelor’s degree, as outlined in the Bachelor’s Degree Requirements  section of this catalog.
  2. Complete Core Curriculum  Requirements for students entering college in Fall 1999 or later.
  3. Successfully complete all coursework and requirements outlined in the degree plan below.

Note: Students who are core complete but did not take speech and computer literacy/proficiency as part of their core curriculum will be required to complete these courses to meet degree requirements.

University Core Curriculum - 42 Semester Hours


  • Core 010 - Communication (6 hours)
  • Core 020 - Mathematics (3 hours)
  • Core 030 - Life and Physical Science  (6 hours)
  • Core 040 - Language, Philosophy and Culture  (3 hours)
  • Core 050 - Creative Arts (3 hours)
  • Core 060 - American History (6 hours)
  • Core 070 - Government/Political Science (6 hours)
  • Core 080 - Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)
  • Core 090 - Component Area Option: Speech (3 hours)
  • Core 090 - Component Area Option: Computer Literacy (3 hours)

Humanities Course Requirements - 18 Semester Hours


  • Freshman Level Foreign Language: 6 semester hours in the same foreign language (Freshman I & II)
  • Sophomore Level Foreign Language: 6 semester hours in the same foreign language (Sophomore I & II)
  • HUMA/PHIL/ENGL/SPAN/GEOG: 6 semester hours lower- or upper-division courses*

*May not use courses that satisfy core curriculum or BA general program requirements.

Program Requirements - 30 Semester Hours


LD/UD Free Electives - 30 Semester Hours


Additional lower- and upper-division electives to meet the 36 upper-division semester hours and the 120 total semester hours needed for the degree.
