Interdisciplinary Studies, M.A.

  1. General Admission Requirements. Admission to Graduate Studies (see Graduate Admissions ).
  2. Program Admission. In addition to meeting university admissions requirements for a graduate degree students must submit their official GRE scores. Admission to the M.A.I.S program is based on an evaluation by the program’s admission committee of the following information:
    1. A one-page essay that states (a) the student’s reasons for applying to the program, (b) his or her career goals, and (c) his or her research and scholarly interests, if any.
    2. Submit official GRE scores and have an Admissions index of 900 or higher, obtained by the following:
      • GPA on at least the last 60 semester credit hours times 200 Plus 15 times (Verbal + Quantitative - 260).

Degree Requirements


A minimum of 30 graduate semester hours (s.h.) with a final grade of at least a B in each course.  Degree requirements include:

  • M.A.I.S. Core: 3 s.h.

  • First Concentration: 12-18 s.h.

  • Second Concentration: 9-15 s.h.

  • Additional electives or an optional thesis to complete the 30 s.h. minimum.

Note: COSC 6360 Fundamentals of Programming and COSC 6361 Programming and Data Structures will not count toward the 30 semester hour requirement.

Core Courses and Concentrations


Program Core requirements (3 s.h.)


Admission to the Interdisciplinary Studies program is required prior to enrolling in core courses.

Complete 3 semester hours from the following options:

First Concentration (12-18 s.h.)


Students must complete 12-18 semester hours in one of the following areas:

  • Biomedical Sciences

  • Computer Science

  • English

  • History

  • Psychology

Second Concentration (9-15 s.h.)


Students must complete 9-15 semester hours in one of the following areas:

  • Any Graduate Certificate program listed in A&M-Victoria’s Catalog
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Business
  • Computer Science
  • General Interdisciplinary Studies Track (any graduate classes, by advisement)
  • Education
  • English
  • History
  • Psychology

Special Options


Upon advisement and recommendation of the program director and first concentration advisor, students may complete a 3-6 s.h. interdisciplinary thesis or enroll in INDS 6305 Interdisciplinary Research Project .

Optional Electives (0 -9 s.h.)


Additional electives to reach 30 s.h.
