M.S. in Data Science Admission Requirements


General Admission Requirements
Admission to Graduate Studies follows the university’s standard graduate admissions process (see Graduate Admissions).

Program Admission Requirements
In addition to meeting the university’s graduate admission requirements, applicants to the M.S. in Data Science (MS-DS) program must be evaluated by the program’s admission committee based on the following:

  • A resume detailing work experience and educational background.
  • A one-page essay explaining the applicant’s reasons for applying, career goals, and any research or scholarly interests.
  • Official GRE or GMAT scores with an Admissions Index of 980 or higher, calculated as follows:
  • For GRE (taken on or after August 1, 2015):

                 Admissions Index = (GPA for the last 60 semester credit hours × 200) + 15 × (Verbal + Quantitative score - 260)

  • For GMAT:

                 Admissions Index = (GPA for the last 60 semester credit hours × 200) + GMAT score

  • Evidence of completion of coursework in the following areas:
    • 3 semester hours (s.h.) of Calculus, Algebra, Discrete Structures, or Discrete Mathematics
    • 3 s.h. of Statistics
    • 6 s.h. of Programming or Data Structures
