Commencement

The university typically holds two commencement ceremonies each year: one at the end of the spring term in May and another at the end of the fall term in December. Students who complete their degree requirements in the summer may participate in either the December ceremony or the May ceremony, after their degree requirements are fully completed.

Students who are enrolled in their final semester and completing all requirements for graduation, must complete a graduation application through their self-service portal by the published deadline to participate in the commencement ceremonies. Students who miss the deadline to apply for graduation will not be allowed to participate in the current semester’s commencement ceremony.  Students can submit an Appeal to Graduate request within 10 days from the deadline. All applications received after the 10-day appeal period, will only be eligible to participate in the next semester’s ceremony.

Students who indicate they will participate at commencement will receive information from commencement@tamuv.edu about caps, gowns, tickets, and the ceremony day. For more information about commencement, visit the commencement website.

Eligibility for Commencement

Students must be on track to complete all degree requirements in the term they plan to participate in the commencement ceremony. Commencement recognizes academic achievements, but the official conferral of degrees occurs after the ceremony when final grades are posted and all degree requirements have been met.

The commencement program lists the names, degrees, and honors designations (based on the previous semester’s progress) of preliminary degree candidates who applied by the appropriate deadline. Please note that this program should not be considered an official list of graduates.

Students who do not meet graduation requirements in the term in which they plan to participate, may be denied participation in the ceremony. For eligibility questions, contact the Commencement Team at commencement@tamuv.edu.
