Pre-Grad Program

Under the following conditions, a degree-seeking undergraduate may enroll into graduate courses and reserve that course for credit toward a graduate degree:

  1. The student must have a university grade point average of at least 3.00.
  2. The student must have completed at least 100 semester hours of coursework toward an undergraduate degree.
  3. The student must be registered for/registering into their final undergraduate semester at UHV.
  4. The student may not register for more than 9 graduate semester hours in the long semester or for more than 6 graduate semester hours in the summer session in which the course is reserved.
  5. No more than 9 semester hours may be reserved for graduate credit.
  6. The student must submit a graduate application for the program they will be taking classes from. Only specifically designated, approved programs will allow concurrent enrollment.
  7. The student must submit a Course Credit Petition and have it approved by the College to be enrolled into graduate courses.
  8. Students should not assume that graduate courses will be used to meet requirements toward the undergraduate degree, in keeping with the requirements of UHV’s accrediting body (the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges-SACSCOC). Students are advised to speak with advisors in both the undergraduate and graduate programs regarding how credits will be applied toward degree plan(s).
  9. Students who are hoping to utilize financial aid to cover the cost of their tuition must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 graduate hours to be eligible. Undergraduate credit hours are not considered for eligibility of financial aid for Pre-Graduate students.

An undergraduate student enrolled in a graduate course is subject to all university regulations affecting undergraduates.

All graduate coursework will count toward a student’s graduate GPA. Any and all grades earned while an undergraduate student is completing graduate-level courses will count towards the graduate GPA. A maximum of a two C grades is allowed within the graduate program, for programs that allow C grades (see catalog for individual program specifics). If a student earns more than two C grades, either while concurrently enrolled in undergraduate courses or otherwise, those courses will need to be repeated. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for graduate students to meet degree requirements.

Students who take graduate courses under this policy are admitted as temporary graduate students. No guarantee of full admission to the program is made, and students will not be fully processed for an admissions decision (into the graduate program) until their undergraduate degree has been awarded. Should a student’s degree not be conferred, their admission into the graduate program will be revoked. If a student is denied admission due to their degree not being awarded, they would no longer be eligible to take graduate-level courses until their degree has been conferred.
