Introduction to psychopharmacology for counseling. Topics include basic neurobiology, pharmacokinetics, assessment, and history taking, and drugs as they relate to the treatment of various disorders. Course will focus on the classifications of psychotropic drugs, their indications for use, intended drug actions, common side effects and adverse reactions. Course content also includes criteria of psychiatric diagnosis, use of the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and the theories of psychopathology.
