Strategic, M.B.A.


Preamble: The Strategic MBA is a 30 hour MBA program  with curriculum emphasis on leadership and strategic decision making.

  • Students without sufficient prior coursework may be required to take up to 6 hours of foundation coursework.
  • Students may elect to add a concentration, completing the coursework as defined by the selected concentration the required additional hours.

Mission: The mission of the Strategic MBA program is to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully manage organizations in a dynamic environment by offering an integrated curriculum that blends theoretical concepts with practical applications.

Strategic MBA graduates will be able to:

  • Analyze business operations and processes;
  • Analyze changes in the business environment to develop strategies that respond to emerging opportunities and threats;
  • Apply leadership skills to work effectively with individuals and teams in organizational situations; and
  • Apply cross-functional approaches to organizational issues.

Degree Requirements


The following courses are required for attaining the Master of Business Administration degree. Courses are listed in the recommended completion order.

Required Elective:


Choose an advanced elective, selected from the available concentration offerings. Students choosing a concentration should select their advanced elective from the selected concentration.

Restricted Elective:


Choose one from: BUSI 6351  , ECON 6367  , FINC 6367  , MGMT 6356  , MGMT 6377  , MGMT 6387  , MKTG 6377  ; Students selecting the HRM Concentration MUST select MGMT 6356  to maintain alignment with SHRM-designated certification; Overlap between this restricted elective and elsewhere on the degree plan is NOT permitted

Optional Academic Concentration (6-9 hours)


Choose one of the following:

Accounting:


9 semester hours composed of 3 hours required accounting courses, and 6 semester hours of electives selected from an approved list.

  • Two additional graduate Accounting (ACCT) electives.
  • For students coming from non-accounting undergraduate programs, additional undergraduate prerequisites may be required for enrollment in the concentration courses. 

Human Resources Management:


9 semester hours composed of electives selected from the following approved list.

*Students who do not have sufficient background in Statistics/Analytics will be required to take BUSI 6A02  as a foundation course. Students who do not have a sufficient background in Accounting will be required to take ACCT 6A01  as a foundation course. Students who do not have a sufficient background in Economics will be required to take ECON 6A01  as a foundation course.
