Structured Literacy Teacher Certification (Non-degree seeking)

Return to: College of Education and Health Professions
- Hold a valid Texas teacher certificate.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience in an accredited school.
- Admission to gradute study within the College of Education & Health Professions must precede the completion of applicable coursework.
- Complete the 9 semester hours of specified graduate-level courses beyond the bachelor’s degree in an approved graduate teacher education program. Students must have a signed plan on file. Courses include:

Graduate Certification
Admission to a Graduate Certification Program
For applicants, with GPA’s below 3.0, seeking certifications in a class other than classroom teacher the following scores must be achieved:
GRE® scores in the following ranges:
- GRE® Verbal Reasoning - 143 or greater
- GRE® Quantitative Reasoning - 140 or greater
- GRE® Analytical Writing - 3.0 or greater
The applicant MUST also meet the UHV admissions index.
Specified level graduate courses
Complete the 15 semester hours of specified graduate-level courses beyond the bachelor’s degree in an approved graduate teacher education program. Students must have a signed plan on file.
Note
Pass the Center for Excellence and Reading (CERI) exam to become a nationally certified Structure Literacy Teacher.
