Administration and Supervision, M.Ed.

Mission: The mission of University of Houston - Victoria Educational Administration program is to develop leaders who advance School-Community, Instructional and Administrative Leadership.

Students must pass a comprehensive examination on the content of the courses in their plan area. All questions will come from the faculty of the ELAS teaching core. Students are eligible to take the comprehensive exam upon completion of 24 graduate credit hours. Students who fail the exam may re-take it within the same semester in which it was first attempted. A subsequent failure will result in required remedial work and may delay graduation. After three failures, students will be withdrawn from the program and, therefore, be deemed ineligible for graduation.

Principal Certification & Master’s Plan

Note

Certification as a school principal is included in the plan. A “certification only” plan is available for those individuals wishing to pursue Principal Certification who have already completed a graduate degree. See the section titled “Graduate Certifications” for details.

Requirements for the Principal Certificate

Hold a valid Texas teacher certificate.
A minimum of two years of teaching experience in an accredited school.
Admission to graduate study within the School of Education, Health Professions & Human Development must precede the completion of applicable course work.
Completion of an approved administrative practicum experience.
Completion of required course work designed to develop administrative competencies and comply with SBEC Learner Centered Proficiencies for the Principalship.
Pass the TExES # 068. Students are eligible to take take the TExES #068 after successfully completing twenty-four hours of ELAS coursework.

Master of Education Administration and Supervision (General Leadership)

9 semester hours selected by advisement from any discipline to complete and support the plan area.

Additional Certification

Individuals who have completed a graduate degree and who hold a valid Principal Certificate may pursue additional courses leading to a Superintendent Certificate.

Requirements for the Superintendent Certificate

Hold a valid Principal Certificate.
Complete course work to include 12 semester hours

ELAS 6345 Educational Facilities and Environment
Complete the 6 semester hours of approved Superintendent’s practicum
ELAS 6308 Internship for the School Superintendency
ELAS 6309 Practicum for the School Superintendency
Pass the TExES # 195. Students are eligible to take the TExES #195 after successfully completing twelve hours of ELAS coursework prior to their practicum/internship.
